The project
Planning is well underway to build a new library adjacent to the Firstenburg Community Center site on 136th Ave., on land the city has provided. The new library will be approximately 10 times larger than the current 2,500 square foot Cascade Park Community Library on Hearthwood, which will be sold once the new facility is completed. Tentative schedule for the new library is to break ground mid-2008 and to open to the public in Fall 2009.
Building a community library
Approximately 120 citizens have participated in public meetings and focus groups to provide input on the new library's design and features. Library staff and the project partnership of Opsis Architecture of Portland and Johnston Architects of Seattle heard and responded to citizens' concerns about parking and other ideas for the building and presented updated site plans, building elevations and floor plans.
