Author Dexter C. McPherson
Local author Dexter C. McPherson will be signing copies of his new book, Two Trails to Judith, at the Three Creeks library on Saturday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to ask him questions about his writing and extensive research process, and to hear stories of the old West!

Emergency Preparedness
Forum at the Library will host an "Emergency Preparedness" panel discussion at the Vancouver library (downstairs in Library Hall) on Thursday, January 21, at 7 p.m. Questions that will be addressed include: Who is in charge? What can families and individuals do? Call (360) 695-1566 to learn more, including details about the panelists who represent local emergency and health organizations.

Celebrating William Stafford: Oregon Poet 1914-1993
Join local poetry lovers as they share favorite poems by (or inspired by) William Stafford at two events:
Washougal library, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
Vancouver library, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m.
You may also read aloud your own poetry written in the spirit of Stafford's work.

Scrabble® Tournament (a fundraiser)
Scrabble enthusiasts of all ages are invited to participate in this fun and lightly competitive tournament, held at the White Salmon Valley library on Saturday, January 23, 2:00-4:30 p.m. To help raise funds for the library’s teen summer reading program, a donation of $5 per team is suggested. There will be refreshments and prizes. Registration recommended - call (509) 493-1132.

Three local artists share their visions of our unique corner of the state, in an exhibit on display in the Battle Ground library gallery from Jan. 5 through Feb. 27. Artists’ reception on Saturday, January 9, 1-4 p.m.

There's an abundance of interactive programs for children at FVRL libraries during January. Here are just a few:

Come and see the brand new Cascade Park library!

About 1,300 people attended the grand opening of the new Cascade Park library on December 15. Features of the new library include a fireplace sitting area, meeting and study rooms, teen area, large children's area with a parent perch, 28 internet computers and much more. Regarding parking: All parking spaces are available to both Firstenburg Community Center and library patrons, including 63 new spaces at the north end of FCC. More details and hours

Knit or Sew @ the Library
Sewing is Sew Cool at Three Creeks library! All ages are invited to join us on Saturday, January 30, from 1-4 p.m. as we sew easy, fun and creative items, including pajama pants and pillow covers. Bring your own fabric, thread and sewing machine if you have one or use ours. Sponsored by Columbia River Sewing Guild, which invites you to also bring non-perishable food donations for the Food Bank.
Drop-in knitting groups - Open to anyone who likes to knit or wants to learn. Two groups meet during January:
Vancouver Mall library, Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
La Center library, Mondays (except Jan. 18) from 10:00-11:30 a.m.
Stitchery groups - Any stitchery-type hobby is welcome, including projects such as knitting, spinning, crocheting, quilting and mending. Two groups meet in January:
Ridgefield library, Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Battle Ground library, Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
