Spanish Conversation Circles
Practice your Spanish-speaking skills with other adults. Held at three locations:

     Cascade Park library - Every Tuesday in January at Noon
Three Creeks library - January 4, 11 and 25, 6-8 p.m.
Vancouver library - January 18, 6-8 p.m. in the 4th floor Klickitat Room

You can also learn languages online using our research databases. All you need is your library card to sign in and start learning.


Lunch Pail Tales: A Story Hour for Grownups
Live readings of short stories that will make you laugh, cry or cringe in fear. A great way to escape during your lunch break! Held at the Vancouver library (4th floor Klickitat Room), Wednesdays, January 4 and 18, 12:05-12:55 p.m.

Travelogue: Spain
Battle Ground residents Jan, Ryan and Quinn Murphy traveled to Bunol, Spain last August, home of La Tomatina, the world's largest vegetable fight. Hear about their experience, see their slides, and share some laughs with this adventurous family. Held Tuesday, January 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Battle Ground library.

Friends' Fundraiser: Scrabble Tournament
Scrabble enthusiasts of all ages are invited to participate in this fun and lightly competitive tournament. Suggested donation to benefit Teen Summer Reading prizes: $5 per player. Registration recommended. Refreshments served. Prizes awarded. Held Saturday, January 21, 2:00-4:30 p.m. at the White Salmon library.

Concert: Lou Marzeles and Friends
Enjoy an evening of great music with Goldendale's own Lou Marzeles, featuring guitar and mandolin pieces. Lou will be joined by Leslie Geatches and other local musicians. Held Thursday, January 26, 7 p.m. at the Goldendale library.

Environmental Film Series
Vancouver Watersheds Alliance presents films and discussion with local experts. Snacks and drinks provided. Children welcome. This month: See the global bee crisis through the eyes of beekeepers, scientists, farmers and philosophers from around the world. Held Tuesday, January 24, 6-9 p.m. at the Vancouver library (in the first floor Columbia Room).

Trailblazing Journalist: Margaret Bourke-White
A recognized specialist in Women's Studies and Political Science, Lynne Iglitzin vividly tells the story of photographer Margaret Bourke-White who, early in the 20th century, pioneered new techniques in photojournalism and opened the door for women in photography. A Humanities Washington program. Held in two locations:

Three Creeks library - Thursday, January 26, 7 p.m.

Cascade Park library - Friday, January 27, 1 p.m.

Create Inspired Art
Create a piece of art inspired by your New Year's resolution. Several local artists will give five-minute talks about inspirational art and will answer questions. Art supplies provided. You can also bring your own supplies to use or share. Light snacks served. Held Saturday, January 28, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Goldendale library.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year
Learn Chinese New Year customs and history. Performances include singing, dancing, martial arts demonstration, Gu Zheng (Chinese musical instrument) and lion dance. Craft activities available on Level 3 after the program. Held Sunday, January 29, 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the Vancouver library (in the first-floor Columbia Room).

Come see a selection of paintings by members of the Battle Ground Art Alliance, on display in the Battle Ground library community room through February 29.

'Shy' by Fariha Crazy for Pastels x 3
An exhibit featuring pastel artists Carol DeGregory, Fariha and Sandy Granich, on display in the Cascade Park library community room through February 29. Meet the artists at a reception on Saturday, January 7, 1-5 p.m.

NEW: "Sophie Reads"
Sophie Reads is the name on 52 different themes of take-home kits for children 0-5 years and their parents. Each kit has books, a CD or DVD, a toy, and a resource guide and related non-fiction book for parents. A selection of kits may be found at libraries for checkout (sorry--no holds, no renewals).
