Books-by-Mail cutbacks clipart determined
Thank you to everyone who wrote to us this past month with thoughts and suggestions for the reductions that needed to be made to our Books by Mail service. The Board truly appreciated receiving your thoughtful comments.

As you know, the Board had previously agreed to reduce the Books by Mail service by $250,000 as part of the service cuts needed to bridge a significant budget shortfall. At their Feb. 9 meeting, they took action on the next issue: determining what level of service could be provided with the remaining $150,000 budgeted for this service. They agreed the free service would continue to those who apply and are qualified based on disability or distance criteria. Mail to all others stops on April 1.

We will be working on a payment system for those who don't qualify for the free service to obtain it at a charge; we hope to offer this in 2010. We also continue to accept donations and are grateful to those who have provided their support in the past.

See our Books by Mail page for more information.
