Exhibit: 7 Artists, 7 Weeks
White Salmon Valley Community Library

A portfolio show by seven seniors from Columbia High School, on display in the White Salmon library's gallery from June 1 through July 18. Includes a variety of media: jewelry, a Renaissance costume, oil and watercolor paintings, graphite, ink, illustrations, silk-screen and more. Opening reception on Friday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. with music by The Tall Trees (who are also recent graduates from Columbia High School).

Open to anyone who likes to knit or wants to learn. Volunteers will be available to teach and assist.

Stitch Wits

New Cascade Park Community Library Groundbreaking - June 20

clip art Join us for the ceremonial kick-off of construction at the site of the new library -- 700 NE 136th Avenue, adjacent to the Firstenburg Community Center in Vancouver. The event is Friday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. Refreshments provided by Friends of the Library.
There will also be free activities for kids!

Get an Update on the Main Library Project on July 2
clip art You're invited to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, July 2 for an update on the main library building project. You'll also be among the first to view schematic plans for the new building, which will be located at the corner of E. Evergreen Blvd. and C Street. The meeting will be held 7-9 pm in Library Hall in the basement of the current main library, 1007 E. Mill Plain Blvd. (The room is handicapped accessible; please call 360.695.1566 in advance if you need special accommodations.) The schematic designs to be presented reflect input gathered at a November 2007 public meeting and from focus groups the district has recently conducted.

The One Minute Critic
clip art Sam Wallin (one of our very hip information services librarians) has created a new program: The One Minute Critic! It features online video book reviews -- you can listen to what others have to say about books they're reading. Join Sam at a special One Minute Critic program on June 18, 7 p.m. at the Vancouver Community Library. You will have a chance to talk about a book for one minute (or so), get a free book to take home (a good one!) and you'll go home happy and inspired.

The Canoes of David Thompson
& the Pacific Northwest

An Inquiring Mind program featuring Jack Nisbet. Held at Goldendale Community Library on Tuesday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. Follow the travels of explorer and mapmaker David Thompson from the source of the Columbia to its end. Look at examples of canoes from both natives and explorers.
