Stories of Klickitat Pioneers
Join the Friends of Goldendale Library in celebrating the release of their new book, Stories Told by the Early Pioneers of Klickitat Valley, at an event on Thursday, Dec. 3, 3:00-6:30 p.m. at the Goldendale library. Pick up your copy of this revised, edited, and enhanced edition of a publication originally compiled by the late Homer Townsend of Goldendale. Proceeds of the sale of these books benefit the Goldendale library.
Nancy Barron, president of Friends and co-editor, said the book is intended as a service to the community. “Our work on Stories has been a labor of love. We faithfully reproduced Townsend’s book. For this new edition, we also researched where these pioneers lived and worked, and we searched out the life stories of the 1930s storytellers...We added context to the original edition with a new introduction, preface, and delightful illustrations, intending our efforts to enrich appreciation of our valley and community.”
Publishing this work is part of efforts by the Friends to preserve and promote local history and writing. The Friends believe that Stories continues the professional standards set by Bluelight to Pucker Huddle, a collection of stories by local writers that Goldendale Friends published in 2005.
