National Novel Writing Month
Join people all around the world in tackling the fun, frightening and totally unforgettable challenge of bashing out an entire book in a month – your own! Come to these special open hours at the Washougal library:
   -Saturday, November 7, 6 p.m.–midnight
   -Saturday, November 28, 6 p.m.–midnight

Dark Sky Night
Learn about star-gazing and the night sky, as members of the Goldendale Astronomy Club talk about their favorite activities in Goldendale and why a dark sky is so important to our community. Held at the Goldendale library on Wednesday, November 4 at 6 p.m.
Exhibit: Giving Thanks
Local photographer Liza Carlson celebrates her 30th birthday with an exhibit at the White Salmon library that reflects on her raison d’etre (reason for being) and what she is most thankful for. Come to the Artist’s Reception on Friday, November 20 from 6-9 p.m.
Reduce, Reuse, Rejoice:
Sustainable Holidays
Katy Wolk-Stanley of the Non-Consumer Advocate blog will provide ideas for the season and beyond that won’t break the bank or the planet. Held at the Vancouver library (downstairs in Library Hall) on Saturday, November 21 at Noon.
Twilight Tales
Storyteller Antoinette draws from her native Canadian heritage, as well as the larger body of romantic folklore to create this haunting program of dangerous love, animal transformations and intimations of immortality. Recommended for ages 12 through adult. Held at the Washougal library on Saturday, November 21 at 1 p.m.
Make a Holiday Centerpiece
Create a beautiful centerpiece for the holiday season at the Stevenson library on Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. A great family activity designed to kick off the winter holidays! All materials provided. Snacks courtesy of Friends of the Library.

Gaming at the Library
Like video and board games? Here are several programs that may interest you:

Gaming Group: This informal group meets at the Washougal library for fun playing RPGs! We speak and play Dungeons and Dragons, GURPS, Call of Cthulu, etc. Light snacks provided by Friends of Washougal Community Library. Held every Friday in November from 4-6 p.m.

National Gaming Day: Play online and board games (bring your own favorite games or play something new provided for this event!) on Saturday, November 14, at one of these locations:
   -Ridgefield library from 1-4 p.m.
   -Vancouver library from 1-5 p.m.
All ages welcome.

Grand Opening Dec. 15 at
New Cascade Park Library

Mark your calendar for the grand opening of the new Cascade Park library! See details. The library's design features lots of natural light, a "parent perch" in the children's area, fireplace in the reading room, computers and technology, meeting and study rooms, teen space, and beautiful woodwork throughout. Plus, of course, room for lots more books!

Meet the Authors
David Michael Slater: Celebrate Jewish Book Month with Portland author David Michael Slater (see his books in our catalog). Copies of his books will be for sale at the event. Held at the Three Creeks library on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Shalom Chapter of Hadassah.

Marilyn Lemley: Washington native M.C. Lemley will share insights into her writing process, followed by a reading from her debut novel, The Tourist Town Murders. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Held at the White Salmon library on Saturday, November 7 at 1 p.m.


Kim Antieau: The author will discuss her book, Church of the Old Mermaids, on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. at the White Salmon library.

New Moon Fundraiser for Battle Ground Library
Purchase a $9.00 ticket to a special showing of "New Moon" (get the book!) on Friday, November 20th (movie begins at 11:59 p.m.) at Battle Ground Cinemas, 1700 SW 9th Avenue. Proceeds from the tickets sales will benefit the Friends of Battle Ground Community Library. Friends' sales help to support your library
Used book bargains offered by the Friends of the Library.
Woodland library
Stop by the Woodland library during the Friends book sale for some great used book bargains. Sale is Friday, Nov. 13 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Donate your furniture to support FVRL Foundation
Divine Consign is a wonderful community fundraiser located in Downtown Vancouver. This upscale furniture consignment store, operated by volunteers, turns gently used donated and consigned furniture into dollars for community nonprofits, including your local library. Home furnishings can be donated to Divine Consign as a gift; As the donor, you can also ask that FVRL Foundation receives 50% of the proceeds from the sale. An in-kind tax-deduction receipt will be provided by 'Gifts For Our Community'. For more information, please contact Divine Consign at (360) 695-6443.
