"Our History and Our Future"
Built circa 1905, this charming 2-story library once served as a hospital. It was moved a half-mile to its current location in 2001, then completely renovated and transformed by the La Center community.
To quote from a plaque next to the front door: “Thanks to the visionary efforts of Margaret Colf Hepola, the structure was saved from demolition in 2001 and designated for use as a future public library. The structure was completely renovated after being moved in August 2001 to its current site, on land purchased by the Colf Family Foundation. This library building stands as testimony to the Colf family's community commitment, determination and generosity, and the support provided by the Friends of La Center Community Library.”
The library is a bridge between old and new in La Center. Charming architecture and beautiful woodwork are combined with modern technology.
Books are the focus here, and you'll find many titles to choose from on our shelves. You'll also find videos, CDs and popular magazines. We offer weekly story times for kids and programs and events for all ages. Public computers provide free access to extensive research databases, the Internet and word processing. You also can search our online catalog and request books from any of the district's 12 other libraries to be brought here for checkout.
An active and dedicated Friends of the Library group meets the first Wednesday evening of each month and welcomes new members.
Come by and check out your beautiful, community-built public library!
