Library Announces Grand-Prize Winners of 2009 Bookmark Contest
District-wide -
Celebrations at home libraries will be held in April
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Fort Vancouver Regional Library District has notified nine talented junior artists that they are the grand-prize winners of the 2009 Bookmark Contest. Selected from local-library finalists chosen from nearly 4,000 entries received district-wide, the nine original designs include a district winner from each grade level, kindergarten through 8th:
Kindergarten - Bryce Gaffney, Orchards Elementary / Vancouver Mall Community Library
1st Grade -- Grace Maruca, Sarah J. Anderson Elementary / Three Creeks Community Library
2nd Grade -- Cindy Johnson, Homelink / Battle Ground Community Library
3rd Grade -- Samuel Chih-Hsaing Kuo, Illahee Elementary / Cascade Park Community Library
4th Grade -- Isaac Adams, Vancouver Home Connection / La Center Community Library
5th Grade -- Dillon Gohl, homeschooled / Washougal Community Library
6th Grade -- Brandon Berk, Bickleton Elementary / Goldendale Community Library
7th Grade -- Taylor Sawyer, homeschooled / Woodland Community Library
8th Grade -- Krista Zimmerman, Jason Lee Middle School / Vancouver Community Library
Beginning in April, 10,000 full-color copies of the winning bookmarks will be distributed throughout the district's 13 libraries and three bookmobiles. The grand-prize-winning designs are posted on the library Web site at www.fvrl.org/kids/bookmark_winners.htm.
Nine local contest finalists at each library will receive their original framed entries as keepsakes and will be recognized at celebrations held at their home libraries in April, National Library Month. The bookmark contest has been held every other year since 1985. Contest judges include library staff from across the district.
Major 2009 sponsors are The Columbian, IQ Credit Union, Les Schwab Tire Centers, Cascade Dental Group, McDonald's, and Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation, with support from Pacific Office Automation.
