Sign-ups Start June 1 for the Library's 2009 Summer Reading Program
District-wide -
Prizes must be claimed by Aug. 31
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Children and teens can have fun and earn prizes while keeping their reading skills sharp with free summer reading programs at Fort Vancouver Regional Library District libraries and bookmobiles. The district's summer reading programs run June 1 through the end of August, with sign-ups beginning June 1 and ending August 15.
Children up to 12 years old can register to receive summer reading materials that include an activity booklet/reading log and events schedule. For the first five hours of reading logged, participants can visit a branch or bookmobile to receive a certificate of achievement and a prize. Completion of each additional five hours of reading earns another prize (while supplies last) plus a gold seal for their certificate.
For youth 12-19 years old by Aug. 31, the 2009 teen summer reading program offers a $5 gift card toward the purchase of a book or movie pass for every 10 hours of reading recorded in a journal.
All prizes must be claimed by Aug. 31.
2009 program information and event schedules are available at the district's 13 libraries and three bookmobiles, or by calling the district's Telephone Information at (360) 695-1566, or 1-888-546-2707 toll-free from area code 509, or 1-800-921-6211 from Yale Valley. Summer reading information also will be available online at www.fvrl.org on June 1.
All activities, events and prizes are free, and programs are open to the public.
