Cascade Park Community Library to Hold Grand Opening December 15

Cascade Park -    Final day at current library will be November 7

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Grand Opening Celebration for the new Cascade Park Community Library, located at 600 NE 136th Avenue next to Firstenburg Community Center, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 4:00-8:00 p.m. The event will include speeches by dignitaries, refreshments and entertainment.

The new 24,000-square foot library is funded by a library facilities bond measure passed by Vancouver voters in 2006. Cost for the project is approximately $10.2 million. The new library will have 10 times the square footage of the current library and will feature 35 Internet computers, two community meeting rooms (maximum capacity of 19 and 90) available for outside group use, a children/tween area, a teen area, fireplace, two study rooms, state-of-the-art book sorting system and capacity for 90,000 volumes.

The schedule for closing the current library and opening the new facility is as follows:
  • Monday, October 26 -- Cascade Park Community Library will no longer be a pickup location option for new holds placed on books. Patrons placing holds will need to choose an alternate pickup location such as Vancouver Mall Community Library or Vancouver Community Library on Mill Plain Blvd.
  • Saturday, November 7 -- Last day of operation for the current library at 301 SE Hearthwood Blvd. The building will close to the public permanently at 6 p.m. During the following weeks, staff will be busy moving books and preparing the new building for opening.
  • Books left on hold at Cascade Park Community Library will be transferred to the Vancouver Mall library after November 7.
  • While the Cascade Park Community Library is closed, patrons are encouraged to visit other FVRL libraries in the area, including Vancouver Mall Community Library on the second floor near JC Penney at Westfield Vancouver Shopping Mall; and Vancouver Community Library at 1007 E. Mill Plain Blvd. Library hours and additional locations are available at www.fvrl.org.
  • The catalog and many library services are available 24/7 at www.fvrl.org, or you can call (360) 695-1566.
  • Book-return boxes at the old location will be open to accept returned items until Saturday, Nov. 14. The old book drops will be emptied and locked early that day at about the same time the book-return slot at the new library is opened.
