Cascade Park Library Building Closing Saturday, Nov. 7
Cascade Park -
Library will re-open at new location Dec. 15
VANCOUVER, Wash.-- The Cascade Park Community Library building at 301 SE Hearthwood Blvd. will close permanently at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. The closure will allow staff to move books and equipment and prepare for the 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15 opening of the new library building. The new location is at 600 NE 136th Ave., next to Firstenburg Community Center.
A Grand Opening Celebration will be held on opening day from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to the free event, which will include speeches by dignitaries, refreshments, self-guided tours of the new library, and entertainment.
The new 24,000-square foot library is nearly 10 times larger than the current building. Cost for the project is approximately $10.2 million, funded by a library construction bond passed by Vancouver voters in 2006.
Books left on hold at the old library when it closes will be transferred to Vancouver Mall Community Library, located on the 2nd floor of Westfield Vancouver Shopping Mall, near JC Penney.
While the Cascade Park Community Library is closed, patrons are encouraged to visit other FVRL libraries, including Vancouver Mall Community Library and Vancouver Community Library at 1007 E. Mill Plain Blvd. Library hours and additional library locations are listed at www.fvrl.org.
Book-return boxes at the old location will remain open to accept returned items until Saturday, Nov. 14. The old book drops will be emptied and locked early that day at about the same time the book-return slot at the new library is opened.
The library building on Hearthwood was opened to serve Vancouver's growing east side in February 1996, funded by a portion of the revenues from a levy lid lift passed in 1993.
