Fort Vancouver Regional Library District
Programs and Exhibits, Library Initiated

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library offers programs and exhibits intended to further the Library's Mission. Friends of the Library groups, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation and other Library-related organizations may also sponsor programs and exhibits in Library facilities.

No admission fees will be charged at Library programs or exhibits. However, at the discretion of the Executive Director the following will be permissible at Library-initiated programs or on property governed by library policy:

1) Fund-raising to benefit the Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Library groups, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation or other Library-related organization.

2) The sale of books by authors as part of a Library program.

When it furthers the Library Mission to do so, the Library may participate in cooperative programs or exhibits with other agencies, organizations, institutions or individuals. The library may participate as a co-sponsor in programs central to its mission, and that require a fee for attendance for cost recovery purposes.

The Library will endeavor to include a broad spectrum of opinion and a variety of viewpoints in Library-initiated programs and exhibits. Library sponsorship of a program or exhibit does not constitute an endorsement of the content of the program or the views expressed by participants, any more than the purchase of material for the Library collection constitutes an endorsement of the contents of the material or the views of its creator.

Every attempt will be made to accommodate all who wish to attend a program. However, when safety or the success of a program requires it, attendance may have to be limited. When limits must be established, attendance will be determined on a first come, first served basis, either with advance registration or at the door.

In some cases, the nature and success of a program may require a limited attendance based on age -- a program designed to teach modeling skills to young adults, for example. In no case will attendance at a program be limited because the content of the program may be controversial.

The Library will endeavor to offer a wide variety of programs for children, adults and families to appeal to the full range of interests and information needs of the community.

The Executive Director is responsible for the administration of this policy, for establishing administrative procedures for its implementation and for making it available for the public at each branch.
