"Built by the Community"
At approximately 13,000 square feet, we're the third largest FVRL library in Clark County. We offer the latest in computer technology, with Internet and word processing workstations, plus computer stations for kids. You can sit and read local and national newspapers and magazines in our sunny reading area or browse our diverse collection that includes books, CDs, DVDs, large print materials and more. We also offer events for all ages.
This library was made possible through the outstanding efforts of the community. "It was a very unifying thing for us to have this library," notes Avril Massey, member of the North Salmon Creek Neighborhood Association. When a Fred Meyer shopping complex was proposed in their neighborhood, members of the neighborhood association struck a deal with Fred Meyer management: Fred Meyer would make a 32,000 square foot parcel of their development available at cost to the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District for a future library. In November 1998, voters in Fire District 6 established their area as the Three Creeks Library Capital Facility Area and approved a $4.5 million, 10-year bond. That bond has since been paid off.
"This was a win/win situation for the library, Fred Meyer and the community," Salmon Creek Fred Meyer store manager Jim Harvey said. "It's obvious with the number of children, adults and seniors in the area that the entire community benefits. I can't imagine a better decision than to place the library on this property."
