Branch Manager 2—Cascade Park Community Library

Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries is seeking an experienced, dynamic and community-oriented branch manager to provide leadership at Cascade Park Community Library, the second largest and second busiest of 15 libraries throughout our district.

Cascade Park Community Library is located in the Firstenburg Community Center complex in east Vancouver, adjacent to the popular community center run by Vancouver Parks & Recreation. The 24,175 sq. ft. beautiful, modern, open, and airy library building was built in 2009 and features a teen space, an early learning space, a community meeting room, study rooms and a fireplace. In addition, there is a used book store run by Friends volunteers. The Community Center complex serves as the community hub in east Vancouver.

The branch manager is involved in the day-to-day operations of the branch and serves as the face of the library district in east Clark County, coordinating outreach and building relationships with stakeholders in the community. The branch manager leads and develops a diverse team of 22 (18.8 FTE), along with a branch operations manager, a senior public services librarian, a public services librarian and a branch supervisor. The branch manager works with library staff at all levels and at different departments throughout the district and is expected to participate in district workgroups. Branch management, program and staff development, and the ability to build community partnerships are key to this role. Cascade Park Community Library has developed strong partnerships with the local school district, businesses, and social services agencies in the area and is known for its civic engagement programming. Problem-solving, planning for and responding to the needs of staff and patrons, collaborating with colleagues and community partners, and managing the overall operation of the branch are critical competencies for this fast-paced position.

Other essential responsibilities for the position include planning and conducting programs, attending community events as the library representative, and fostering a positive relationship with the Friends of the Library. The branch manager is expected to work closely with other managers—especially colleagues in Clark County—in program-sharing, planning, and strategy-building.

This opening is due to the retirement of the current branch manager, who has been with Cascade Park Community Library for over 11 years and worked for the district for over 26 years.
