Director's Blog: December 16 update

Submitted by A. Shelley on

Winter is almost here! Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries (FVRL) has plenty of great reads for you to curl up with during the dark days ahead. Looking for a challenge? Join Cozy Up with a Good Book, our Winter Reading Challenge, and earn badges for reading all month long in December.

Arts and Culture @ your library

Vancouver artist Sarah Lynne Hunter was selected to create a series of murals for Cascade Park Community Library. Her proposal, “Growing a Reader,” was selected from 15 responses to our public Call for Artists. Look for the murals to be installed in the spring of 2023.

Stevenson Community Library is featuring the work of Nancy Maria Guzman all month. Guzman is a Mexican animator, painter, and designer based in Bingen, Washington.

Tune in to hear guitar virtuoso Hiroya Tsukomoto perform his Cinematic Guitar Poetry on our YouTube channel through December 31, 2022.

Storytimes are back!

Regular family storytimes are now offered at all locations. Check our storytime calendar (PDF) for days of the week and times at your local library. Need to attend online? Anytime Storytimes are available 24/7!

Vancouver Community Library closure

Vancouver Community Library (downtown) will be closed from January 9 through January 22 for carpet replacement, floor refinishing, and other maintenance. During that time, curbside pickup of holds will be available on C Street in front of the library with no appointment required. Use the FVRLibraries app or call 360-906-5168 to let us know you are there. The library will reopen on January 23, but some floors will remain closed for an additional two weeks. Watch for updates on our website.

Tax preparation assistance

Tax preparation assistance will be available at select FVRLibraries locations and other community sites beginning in February. Check our Tax Help page for updates, or call 360-906-5000, 1-888-546-2707 (area code 509), or 1-800-921-6211 (Yale Valley).

Library staff can help you locate federal and state tax forms by number or name. Forms can be printed or requested on the IRS website, from the Oregon Department of Revenue, and the Washington State Department of Revenue. Federal tax forms in print typically arrive in libraries sometime in January but may be delayed this year due to updates in the tax code. IRS offices—the nearest are in Vancouver, Portland, and Yakima—also have select printed tax forms available. To ask the IRS a question, call 800-829-1040 (English & Spanish), or 833-553-9895 (other languages).

Cold weather shelters
