What are the special checkout and billing rules for Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots?

Chromebooks, Chromebook kits, and Wi-Fi hotspots have different checkout limits and a shorter billing timeframe than other checkouts.

Chromebooks (for use in or around the library)

  • Two hour checkout
  • No renewals
  • Billed the next day for $500 if not returned

Chromebook and hotspot kits

  • Seven day checkout
  • One renewal (renews automatically if no holds)
  • Overdue notices:
    • At three days overdue, a notice is emailed.
    • At seven days overdue, a notice is sent by phone or by mail. (If there's no answer to the phone call, a paper notice is sent the next day.)
  • Billing: At 10 days overdue, the hotspot is turned off, the Chromebook locked, and the account is billed for $530.

Hotspots (Verizon or AT&T)

  • 21 day checkout
  • 11 renewals (renews automatically if no holds)
  • Overdue notices
    • At three days overdue, a notice is emailed.
    • At seven days overdue, a notice is sent by phone or by mail. (If there's no answer to the phone call, a paper notice is sent the next day.)
    • At 10 days overdue, the hotspot is turned off.
  • Billing: At 28 days overdue, the account is billed.
