About Author & Illustrator Amy Tan

Amy Tan is an American author best known for her novel The Joy Luck Club. Her most recent book, The Backyard Bird Chronicles, is an intimate look at how she became a devoted birdwatcher and illustrator. “At age 65, I finally returned to drawing and took nature journaling lessons… to sketch birds I did not have to be an expert on birds or art. I could be naive, open, letting the curiosity I had as a child take me deeper into the world of birds and imagination.” Slowing down and observing are key to noticing the nature around you— and it can be as simple as taking a walk without your headphones or lying quietly under a tree. Here are some great resources at the library to get you started as a birder.
