Every year, the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom tracks attempts to remove books from libraries and schools and publishes a list of the most challenged titles to bring public attention to censorship.
Libraries are places to explore, learn about perspectives that might not match your own, and find books that affirm your experience. For these reasons, we join libraries across the country in celebrating Banned Books Week, October 4–10. This year’s theme, “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read,” is a reminder that the right to choose what we read belongs to all of us.
To mark the occasion, we have gathered books for all ages, fiction and nonfiction, that explore the topic of censorship. Find them at your local library or place a hold in our catalog.
