Hoopla

Check out up to 20 films, TV episodes, music albums, eAudio, or eComics from Hoopla monthly and enjoy them on your computer, phone, tablet, or TV. Collections available in several languages, including español中文, and русский.

Basic information
  • Materials are available in over 70 languages.
  • View movies and TV shows for 72 hours (3 days) following checkout. (Some publishers limit the borrow time to 48 hours (2 days).)
  • Stream music albums for up to seven (7) days following checkout.
  • Download and view eComics, eBooks, eAudio, and sheet music for 21 days following checkout.
  • Start an online book club.
  • You may need the Widevine plugin to view videos in your browser. If you are using Firefox, you may wish to use Google Chrome instead, as it doesn't require the plugin.
Get started today
  1. Go to Hoopla and sign up with the email and password of your choice.
  2. Download the appropriate app for your device, or use it in your web browser.
  3. Borrow and enjoy!
How to turn on subtitles in Hoopla

Hoopla offers subtitles for many of the movies and TV shows in its collection. Videos with subtitles available display a "CC" icon next to the title on the video's details page.

To activate subtitles, first start playing the video. Then, follow the steps listed below based on how you are watching:

On a computer

  1. Click the middle of the screen to bring up the playback menu.
  2. Click the gear icon in the upper-right of the screen.
  3. Pick a language to turn on subtitles.
  4. If you wish, click "Caption Settings" to change font and background settings.
  5. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the settings window.

On an Android Device or Kindle Fire

  1. Tap the middle of the screen to bring up the viewing menu.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the language name to turn on subtitles.
  4. Tap the X in the upper right corner to close the subtitles window. (You may have to tap the screen again to get back to the movie.)

On an iOS device

  1. Tap the middle of the screen to bring up the viewing menu.
  2. Tap the small, 3-dot icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap "Subtitles"
  4. Tap the language name to turn on subtitles.
