In 1975, Chevrolet ran an iconic commercial and jingle that got all America singing along. The name of the commercial was “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet”, and you can watch the original on YouTube. Those of us in the upper age registers are now singing the song in our heads. According to various sources, the jingle was written by Ed Labunski, and the campaign was designed by James Hartzell. It drew upon cultural idioms of that era, such as “as American as baseball and apple pie.” So popular was this commercial that Chevy continued to run variations of it for two years, and it was renewed in the 2000s.
In 2021, Guy Fieri (celebrity chef and star of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”) created an Apple Pie Hot Dog, in conjunction with Chevrolet. An homage to the original commercial, it is an all-beef hot dog with apple pie filling and bacon jam in pie crust, topped with apple mustard, and you can find the original recipe online.
