There are two things that I especially like about cookbooks. The first is that they are very visually appealing. I love the food photos; the colors and textures, the variety of displays and table settings that the photographer has chosen to include, the images so sharp it makes your mouth water. I also love how cookbooks are organized into sections, so you can skip to the area that appeals to you the most. I even love how individual recipes are organized: ingredients first, then preparation instructions, finally nutrition information, notes or substitutions. It all appeals to my sense of order.
The second thing I like about cookbooks is that - like books or movies or TV shows - there is something for everyone. Whether you are trying to recreate that Greek lemon soup you had on vacation, or are looking for the recipe for butter beer, you can find a cookbook with that information. I especially like cookbooks that have a literary or TV/movie theme, because these usually include pun-ny titles, which are right up my alley. Today I’ll share some literary cookbooks, and then some other recent cookbooks that the library has acquired.
