How do I renew eBooks and eAudiobooks?

In the Libby app

If it's within three days of the due date, and there are no holds on the title, you may renew.

  1. Open the app and go to "Shelf."
  2. Tap "Loans" at the top of the screen.
  3. Find the title to renew and tap "Manage Loan."
  4. Tap "Renew Loan," then "Renew."

On the FVRL OverDrive website

If it's within three days of the due date, and there are no holds on the title, you may renew.

  1. Go to your Loans shelfLoan shelf icon - several books on a shelf
  2. Select the "Renew" button under the title you want to renew.
  3. Pick a renewal period, then select "Renew" again.
  4. If a title has holds already, you'll see a "Request Again" button the last 3 days of the checkout period instead of a "Renew" button. Click to place yourself on the hold list.

Note: The new checkout period begins the moment you renew, so if you had two days left on your original lending period and renew for 21 days, the new due date will be in 21 days, not 23.

Please note: the OverDrive app was discontinued on May 1, 2023. As Amazon has now accepted the Libby app into the Amazon Appstore for newer Kindle Fire tablets to download, the OverDrive app will be removed from the Amazon Appstore on June 7, 2023. Older Fire owners will still be able to use the OverDrive app for now if it was previously downloaded.
