Please note: the OverDrive app will be discontinued on May 1, 2023. As Amazon has not yet accepted the Libby app to the Amazon Appstore, the OverDrive app will remain available for Kindle Fire users to download and access until further notice. Users with Kindle Fire devices can also sideload Libby manually following these steps.
First steps
- Double-check that you are connected to Wi-Fi.
- Do you have an app on your device? Get instructions for:
- Libby, OverDrive's newer mobile app for Android and iOS (or use Libbyapp.com in a browser window on a computer or mobile device).
- The classic OverDrive app for Amazon Fire.
- Or review how to send eBooks to a Kindle or the Kindle app.
Troubleshooting tips
For Android or iOS devices using the OverDrive app
We suggest trying OverDrive's newer mobile app, Libby. Here's how to get started with Libby.
For other devices using the OverDrive app
See if deleting your app cookies helps.
- Open the OverDrive app.
- Swipe from the left to find the main app menu, and tap "Settings." Then tap "delete app cookies."
- Restart your device.
- Open the app again.
- On the Bookshelf, tap Add a Title OR go back to the main app menu, then find "Fort Vancouver Regional Library" at the very top of the menu and tap on it. This will take you to the FVRL OverDrive home page.
- Look for the icon of the three books standing together and tap that. Sign in with your library card number and PIN. This takes you to your "Loans" page.
- Find the book you want to download on your Loans shelf, and tap "Download EPUB book" to download it again.
For computers with Adobe Digital Editions
- Make sure that you have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions, NOT Adobe Reader.
- If you installed Reader by mistake, we suggest you uninstall it before downloading Adobe Digital Editions, as the two applications don't always work well together.
- Authorize Adobe Digital Editions with your OverDrive account.
- Check that your computer is set up to open OverDrive books with Adobe Digital Editions.
- Open a browser, sign in to OverDrive and go to your Loans shelf, then try to download the book in EPUB format again.
For Kindle devices
- Be sure your Kindle is registered.
- Follow the steps for Getting Started with Kindle Books from Your Library.
- Be sure your device can support Kindle format. If you have an Android or iOS device, there is probably a Kindle app for your device that you can install so you can read your book.
- Be sure your Kindle or the Kindle app on your device is synced:
