Director's Blog: April update

Submitted by A. Shelley on

As recently announced, I have decided to retire effective July 31, 2023. In my nearly eight-year tenure, I have had the pleasure of leading FVRLibraries through some tremendously fruitful and challenging years. It’s been rewarding to see our libraries and communities recover from the pandemic, and especially gratifying to see our patrons returning to our libraries in large numbers to enjoy browsing, programs, and events. The Board of Trustees will launch a national search later this month to find my successor. Spread the word—FVRLibraries is a great place to work! You can find out more about our available positions here.

Events @ your library this month

See our monthly events booklet or online calendar for great programs!

New libraries in the works

We will be breaking ground on the new Woodland Community Library on June 17 at 2 pm. The 7,500 square-foot building will be located on the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Goerig Street, adjacent to the new Woodland Community Center. The Friends of Woodland Community Library are hosting another great Love Your Library event on April 29. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds benefit the new library. Find out about donor opportunities, fundraisers, and more on our Invest in Woodland page.

Our Washougal Community Library project has finished conceptual design and has entered the fundraising stage. More information can be found at Invest in Washougal.

So Many Storytimes!

Looking for something to do with your little ones? Preschool, toddler, baby, and family storytimes are now offered at all locations as well as a number of outreach sites. See our storytime calendar for days of the week and times at your local library. Can’t get out? Anytime Storytimes are available 24/7!

Tax preparation assistance

Tax preparation assistance will be available at select FVRLibraries locations through the middle of April. More tax information and additional tax preparation sites can be found at the tax kiosks in our libraries, our Tax Help page, or by calling 360-906-5000, 1-888-546-2707 (area code 509), or 1-800-921-6211 (Yale Valley).

Library staff can help you locate federal and state tax forms by number or name. Forms can be printed or requested on the IRS website, from the Oregon Department of Revenue, and the Washington State Department of Revenue. IRS offices—the nearest are in Vancouver, Portland, and Yakima—also have select printed tax forms available. To ask the IRS a question, call 800-829-1040 (English & Spanish), or 833-553-9895 (other languages).
